I put together this site as a way to write down some of the thoughts I’ve been mulling over throughout the years.
I started programming pretty early on in my life (the year was 199X) in a community of ROM hackers called PK Hack. We were specifically focused on the Nintendo game “EarthBound” and its prequel. Mother 3 was not out yet, though those were some of the same people who made the fan translation happen.
Somewhere along the line while I was in high school, I met and teamed up with Garry Newman and a few others to help him build and release the first “paid for” version of Garry’s Mod on Steam in 2006. We did not expect such a response.
While I was in college, I got a job as a web developer at a datacenter to support my shitty (awesome) garage band. I learned a lot there, and a thought occurred to me: I was learning more while getting paid than I was while taking out student loans. So I did what any responsible software engineer does, and dropped out.
Not long after that, I took a position as an early engineer at a small YC startup, Quartzy. I moved across the country to California and spent the next 9 years taking on every imaginable role in engineering. I left as a leader, having just built out an early foundation team.
